New pics, New updates

Since James is changing so fast, it's hard for me to keep this blog updated with all of the things that make him James! However, for archive purposes, and for those of you who are far away and can't get enough of the little guy, included here are some more details about his current state. I've also taken some cute pics lately, although it's hard to capture much because the minute the camera comes out he just wants to grab it and starts crawling toward me to get his hands on it!

see what I mean?

Interaction
He's talking a lot, something I am used to but am made aware of when we are around others since several people have commented on it. He jabbers away all the time and seems to be trying out new sounds every day. Mama and Dada are frequent but I don't think he knows what they mean yet. The last few days it's sounded like he's been saying "Uh-oh". And if I say it he'll repeat it after me, which is really fun!
He loves music and has started doing this movement with his hands when I start singing or when music comes on. Usually the only way I can get through a diaper change without him flinging himself off of the table is by singing to him. He often won't cuddle up while I rock him before a nap until I sing as well. For some reason it is often hymns that I sing. His nap hymns are normally "Holy Holy Holy" or "What a Friend we have in Jesus".
He recently started waving goodbye, although instead of a wave he just sticks his hand out and holds it there! It's pretty cute. I guess you could call this a hello wave from his crib!

Teeth
James has one tooth on the bottom and another one coming in next to it. I sort of wish they would all just come in and get it over with! He's drooling like a fool these days and chewing on his fingers constantly. This is the only picture I have where you can see his lone tooth.

Crawling/walking/exploring
James started slowly crawling around thanksgiving with his army crawl. He has since graduated to the traditional hands and knees crawl, except when he's in a hurry he falls down on his stomach and reverts back to the army crawl. A month or so ago James started pulling up on everything. Now he is pulling up on EVERYTHING! He loves to pull up on to the coffee table and then circle around it while holding on. He doesn't have the strength yet to stand or walk on his own but I don't think it's far off. His recent hobbies include opening the kitchen cabinets and emptying them and pulling up on to the toilet and then pulling the toilet paper off of the roll (he's been unsuccessful so far...but I'm sure one of these days he'll get to it before I catch him). Here's a few pictures of my curious boy. I included the 2nd one by the bed because his hair looks so red! People keep commenting on how red it's getting but I think it's just getting thicker.

Mom, pick me up!!

Daddy
James is still a bit of a mamma's boy, but no one can make him smile or laugh like his daddy! I love watching James' face when Kirk gets home in the evenings. James' eyes widen, his head perks up and he crawls towards whatever door is closest to Dad's voice. I don't know how Kirk does it, but he can get James laughing louder than any baby I've ever heard laugh, it's pretty great. They have fun together and I have fun watching them!

Fun with friends
And lastly, on Valentines day we went to two different get togethers and got to spend some time with some friends and LOTS of babies! Suddenly all of our friends have kids! It's an exciting season and will be fun to see James grow up with so many great friends. Here is a fun picture of James, Miller Norman, Nicole Bragg, and Finn Russell. James, Nicole, and Finn were born within 10 days of each other!! Miller is 3 months younger than them.

9 Months

James is 9 months old! These pics were taken a week after he turned 9 months...but whose counting?

When James turned 9 months we were in Canada with the Dahlgrens! We got to ski in Whistler which was a blast. Some of the Olympic events will be held at Whistler very soon and it was cool to see the preparations. Here Kirk and I are on the mountain.
While we were there Aunt Anna taught James how to climb the stairs (I'm pretending to be excited... ;) And since we've been home he is climbing and pulling up on EVERYTHING. Still far from walking (I hope) but man, he is on the move. Today he discovered that he could reach the books on his bookshelf and it resulted in the first book emptying session. I'm sure there will be more to come. He fell at one point, cried for a minute, and then got right back at it, even laughing when he figured out how to pull the big books down. It was pretty cute. His laugh is the best.

I have a lot of great video from the last couple months, hopefully I can get some up here soon!
