Whew! The last few weeks have been some of the... most surreal... weeks of my life. It has already been a challenging couple months because of the addition of Norah, and we were just settling back into being home after our crazy holiday traveling when it became clear that our family was being led to Portland, and fast! Kirk has taken a new job with a great company out here, as most of you know reading this. He started on monday and is really excited about what he will be doing. It fits him pretty perfectly.
We wanted our family to stay together, so we decided to make the move all at once and get up here quickly. So we packed our house, got it ready to sell, and tried to tie up any loose ends in Nashville, all in a little over a week. We couldn’t have done it without LOTS of help from our friends, if you are reading this: THANK YOU!
Praise the Lord that Norah is sleeping well at night and has been an easy baby for us, it’s crazy that only 8 weeks of her life were spent in Nashville.
Kirk drove out one of our cars and I flew out with the kids this past saturday. The flights went well and we are staying with a friend until we figure out where we want to be.
When the kids and I got to the Portland airport some friends of ours were waiting for us to welcome us to town. I am so grateful that we already have a few friends up here and it was such a gift that this particular family would come out to let us know they are here for us.
Kirk and I have always talked about moving to the Northwest at some point. We did not know it would be now! Some of you probably don’t know that before Kirk moved to Nashville (and for a few summers after) he guided rafting trips up here in Oregon and the surround states. Both of us are more than excited to be so close to amazing rivers, mountains, and ocean. Kirk will probably get many more opportunities to use all that kayak gear that has been sitting in our basement for the last few years!
There are many stories I could tell you about how God has prepared us for this move, in ways we couldn’t have known at the time. How many roads seem to have led us here. I will tell some of those soon hopefully as I find the words. Right now I am still getting used to our world being turned upside down.
Everything is different. The time zone, the speed limit, the paper bags at Target. Nothing is easy right now. You know life is crazy when “cut toenails” is still not crossed off my to do list.
Please pray for little James. He is having a hard time with all the changes in his life. And pray for us also, for rest in the craziness and that God would continue holding us close as he has been. We need it.
